I’m sure you know that certain yoga practices are likely to enhance a good night’s sleep and that caffeine is likely to be detrimental, but do you know why? Caffeine has a half life which means only half of it has metabolized through the system 4 hours after a cuppa. If you stick to a coffee fix in the morning, its unlikely to have a detrimental effect on your sleep that night but if you have coffee late in the afternoon, it will still be in your system when its time to go to sleep. Some of us are less sensitive to this than others – I tend to switch to herbal tea for elevenses. There are some lucky people who can enjoy an after dinner coffee without losing sleep or becoming anxious about losing sleep.
